Planning and Preparation
Created with Sketch.
Measure the area where you want to install the pavers.
Calculate the number of pavers needed based on the area and the type of paver you're using.
Gather all necessary materials and tools, including pavers, gravel, sand, edging material, etc.
Excavation
Created with Sketch.
Mark the area with stakes and string to outline the perimeter of the paver installation.
Dig out the area to a depth of about 6-8 inches, depending on the thickness of your pavers and the base materials.
Ensure the excavation is level and compact the soil using a compactor
base preperation
Created with Sketch.
Add a layer of landscape fabric over the excavated area to prevent weed growth.
Pour a 2-3 inch layer of gravel or crushed stone into the excavated area.
Compact the gravel layer using a compactor to create a stable base.
Sand bedding
Created with Sketch.
Pour a layer of bedding sand (about 1 inch thick) over the compacted gravel base.
Spread the sand evenly using a rake and ensure it is level
Laying pavers
Created with Sketch.
Start laying the pavers from one corner or edge of the installation area.
Place each paver tightly against the next one, maintaining consistent spacing between them.
Use a level periodically to ensure the pavers are even and flat.
Cut pavers as needed to fit around edges or obstacles using a saw designed for cutting pavers
Compacting and final bedding
Created with Sketch.
Once all pavers are laid, use a compactor to gently compact them into the bedding sand.
Add more sand over the pavers and sweep it into the joints between them using a broom. This helps to stabilize the pavers and prevent shifting.
Edging and finishing touches
Created with Sketch.
Install any final edge restraints or border materials.
Sweep any excess sand off the surface of the pavers.
Water the paver surface to help settle the sand into the joints and further compact the pavers
